When to use Nextel™ 610 Industrial Fibers & Nextel™ 610 Composite Fibers
3M™ Nextel™ Fabric 610 is >99% alumina and offers the highest strength of all Nextel™ Fibers. High strength makes Nextel™ Fibers and Fabric 610 ideal for polymer, metal and lower temperature ceramic matrix composites used in industrial, aerospace and automotive applications. Nextel™ Fiber 610 is a composite grade fiber designed for load bearing applications in metal, ceramic, and polymer matrices. Nextel™ Ceramic Fiber 610 is used in ceramic and metal matrix composites. Nextel™ Ceramic Fiber 610 is noted for it‘s outstanding single filament tensile properties. When selecting the fiber type for a particular application, it is important to consider all these factors. Other factors, such as corrosion, chemical resistance, or atmospheric conditions may influence the final selection. 3M™ Nextel™ 610 Ceramic Fiber Typical Properties
3M™ Nextel™ Roving 610 – Typical PropertiesColor: Off-White
Note: All yields are based upon sized rovings and yarns. The allowable range in add-ons for sizing is 1.1 to 3.0% by weight. The allowable tolerance on final twist is ± 30%. 3M™ Nextel™ Plied Yarn 610 - Typical PropertiesColor: Off-White
Note: All yields are based upon sized rovings and yarns. The allowable range in add-ons for sizing is 1.1 to 3.0% by weight. The allowable tolerance on final twist is ± 30%. 3M™ Nextel™ 610 Roving Strength – Maximum Temperature Limit
* Strain rate = 12.5 mm/min Fiber Weight Loss Nextel™ 610 Ceramic Fiber RovingRoving samples were subjected to 2192°F (1200°C) for fifteen hours. Fibers were weighed before and after the fifteen hour exposure in order to determine weight loss. The fiber evolves B2O3 at temperatures greater than 2012°F (1100°C)
Shrinkage on Nextel™ 610 FiberRoving samples were held at each temperature for fifteen hours. After that time they were measured for shrinkage. All fiber compositions showed less than three percent shrinkage after fifteen hours at 2372°F (1300°C). Nextel™ 610 Fiber compositions showed shrinkage of less than at these conditions.
Nextel™ Ceramic Fiber 610 Moisture AbsorptionThe 3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Fibers 610 absorb very little moisture due to their smooth, non-porous surface. Fibers exposed to 100% relative humidity for several hours at room temperature had 0.08% weight gain.
